FAQ
Straight answers about non-destructive testing, wind blade inspection, inspector certification and how to work with GV NDT.
Non-destructive testing (NDT) comprises inspection techniques that evaluate the integrity of materials and components without damaging them. They make it possible to find internal or surface discontinuities and release parts safely without destroying them.
We perform ultrasonic testing (UT), visual inspection (VT), liquid penetrant testing (PT) and magnetic particle testing (MT, visible and fluorescent), plus machining dimensional inspection and hub and mainframe metallographic analysis.
Yes. We inspect wind blades with ultrasonic and visual methods at the factory, in storage areas and ports, on the ground and with the blade installed on the turbine (up-tower).
GV NDT has provided services in countries such as Brazil, United States, Chile, Mexico, Argentina, Panama, Spain, India and China.
Yes. We offer ultrasonic (UT) and visual (VT) training with standard or customized content, and we implement NDT personnel certification systems according to the ASNT SNT-TC-1A recommended practice.
It is the American Society for Nondestructive Testing (ASNT) recommended practice for the qualification and certification of NDT personnel. The employer defines a written practice with training, experience and examination requirements and certifies its own staff.
Yes. We develop NDT methods and techniques, write and approve procedures, and design special devices and customized ultrasonic calibration blocks.
Yes. We audit wind blades at plant, port or site, field repair campaigns, installation processes and shop approvals, and we perform root cause analysis of catastrophic failures.
Yes. We sell and rent conventional UT instruments (Olympus, GE, SIUI, among others) and PAUT instruments (Olympus Omniscan), UT and PAUT probes, UV lamps and yokes for magnetic particle testing. We also supply cables and couplant and refurbish batteries.
Fill in the quote form, call +55 (15) 3011-7953 or e-mail contato@gvndt.com.br. Tell us the component, material, quantity, desired method (if known), location and deadline. This speeds up the proposal.
UT assesses the internal integrity of the composite material, making it possible to identify discontinuities such as missing adhesive in bond lines, delaminations and other anomalies in structural laminates that visual inspection cannot reveal.
Yes. We perform up-tower ultrasonic inspection with the blade mounted on the turbine, as well as inspections on the ground, in storage areas and at the factory.
We deliver the full cycle: inspection, engineering analysis and technical report. We also audit field repair campaigns.
Ultrasonic testing (UT) evaluates the inside of the material; visual inspection (VT) checks surface and geometry; liquid penetrant (PT) reveals surface-breaking discontinuities; and magnetic particle testing (MT) detects surface and near-surface discontinuities in ferromagnetic materials.
Yes. We perform MT with visible and fluorescent particles; the fluorescent technique, under UV light, increases sensitivity to fine indications.
Yes. We work at our customers’ facilities, storage areas and in the field.
It is the inspection of components when they arrive at the factory, port or wind farm, to confirm there was no transport damage and that the item meets the specification before assembly.
Metallography evaluates the microstructure of the cast material from drilled samples, helping to confirm the quality of the casting process and to investigate the causes of failures.
It is the assessment of a supplier facility to verify whether processes, personnel, equipment and quality controls meet the customer’s requirements before approval for supply.
Yes. We audit field repair campaigns to confirm that procedures and quality criteria are being followed.
It is a recommended practice from the American Society for Nondestructive Testing that sets guidelines for employers to qualify and certify their NDT personnel, based on a written practice, training, experience and examinations.
Yes. In addition to standard content, we develop customized training for the customer’s components, materials and procedures.
Our standard and customized trainings cover ultrasonic testing (UT) and visual inspection (VT).
Customized blocks reproduce the material, thickness and geometry of the real component, allowing representative ultrasonic calibration and repeatable inspection.
Yes. We write new procedures and also review and approve existing ones.
Yes. We offer sales and rental of conventional UT and PAUT instruments, plus probes and magnetic particle accessories. Tell us the method, application and rental period so we can check availability.
We work with equipment from manufacturers such as Olympus, GE, SIUI and Panametrics, among others. Available models vary; contact us to check.
Yes. Based on the material, thickness and type of discontinuity you need to detect, we recommend the most suitable UT or PAUT probe setup.
Yes, we refurbish batteries. Contact us with the equipment model so we can evaluate it.
