Non-destructive testing of castings, welds and sheet metal: UT, VT, PT and MT

We perform non-destructive testing (NDT) on critical metallic components, such as castings (hubs and mainframes), welded joints, sheet metal, extenders and towers, with certified inspectors and qualified procedures.

Large metallic components concentrate risks that must be found before assembly or operation: internal casting discontinuities, surface cracks, lack of fusion in welds and plate defects. Choosing the right method, and applying it correctly, makes all the difference in the reliability of the result.

We apply the four NDT methods most used in the metalworking industry and the wind sector, alone or combined, according to the component, the material and the customer’s acceptance criteria.

Methods and applications

  • Ultrasonic testing (UT) of castings: hub and mainframe
  • Ultrasonic testing (UT) of welds and sheet metal: extenders and towers
  • Visual inspection (VT) of castings, welds and machined parts
  • Liquid penetrant testing (PT) for surface discontinuities
  • Magnetic particle testing (MT), visible and fluorescent

Typical components

  • Hub and mainframe (castings)
  • Extenders and tower sections
  • Welded joints and plates
  • Machined parts

Frequently asked questions

FAQ

What is the difference between UT, VT, PT and MT?

Ultrasonic testing (UT) evaluates the inside of the material; visual inspection (VT) checks surface and geometry; liquid penetrant (PT) reveals surface-breaking discontinuities; and magnetic particle testing (MT) detects surface and near-surface discontinuities in ferromagnetic materials.

Can magnetic particle testing be fluorescent?

Yes. We perform MT with visible and fluorescent particles; the fluorescent technique, under UV light, increases sensitivity to fine indications.

Do you work at the customer’s facility?

Yes. We work at our customers’ facilities, storage areas and in the field.
